Cleanse, tone and moisturise

Cleansing, Toning and Moisturising

Cleansing, toning and moisturising is used to remove make-up and to prepare the skin for a new application of make-up. Before doing any treatment where you are going to be touching the client’s skin always wash your hands and tell your client that you are going to do so to reassure them you have good hygiene standards. Also talk to your client throughout the treatment especially if the treatment requires them to close their eyes so that they know what you are doing to their skin and so they do not open their eyes or move their head at the wrong time.

You will need:

Cleanser
Toner
Moisturiser
Cotton wool pads
Cotton wool buds
Hair bands or clips
Shoulder cape
Tissue

Method:

-          Cover the client with a shoulder cape, carry out a skin consultation and wash your hands.
.
-          Put clients hair back sing a band or clips and ask them to remove facial piercings if possible, if not work around them.

-          Apply cleanser to the back of your hand.

-          Put some onto two cotton wool pads and stand behind your client, looking into the mirror- for men it may be easier to use tissue instead of cotton wool as the cotton wool can get caught in stubble.

-          Ask the client to tilt their head up slightly and apply the cleanser starting at the neck using upwards, sweeping strokes.

-          Continue doing this all over the face or anywhere there is make-up.

-          If the cotton pads become saturated with make-up throw them in the bin and use clean pads.

-          Make sure you sweep through the eyebrows in both directions to get the cleanser inbetween the hairs.

-          Ask the client to close their eyes and sweep across eyelids, then into the hair line and around the ears.

-          Ask client to look up and sweep the cleanser under the eyes.

-          Use cotton buds if needed to clean around the lash line and any piercings with the cleanser.

-          Apply toner to two cotton wool pads.

-          Start at the neck and apply using a sweeping motion like when using the cleanser until all of the cleanser has been removed.

-          Apply a small amount of moisturiser to the palms of your hands.

-          Ask the client to close their eyes and apply the moisturiser using sweeping, upward strokes starting at the neck.

There are many different types of cleansers, tones and moisturisers out there, I usually use the Simple range when doing peoples make-up as it is soothing on sensitive skin and normally doesn't irritate the skin. However the cleanser still removes water proof make-up, the toner removes the cleanser and closes pores well and the moisturiser creates a soft base for make-up and isn't too oily.
